Supplement Use

Many people today, athletes included, use dietary supplements. They are used and abused by a large percentage of the population. Yes I use supplements -- and I have also been guilty of overuse.

There is a fine line between supplementing one's diet and the way supplements are used by a number of people taking them.

Are you still looking for a magic pill? Do you buy supplements, hoping that they will improve your entire body composition without any additional work?

Many of us are still looking for that magic pill, to the tune of $17.8 billion dollars spent in 2001 on Dietary supplements.

Well, I hate to be the one to tell you that the Magic pill that you are seeking, DOES NOT EXIST! If it did, then everyone would be perfectly fit. Slim and trim would be the norm, not the exception in today's society. Supplements are just that, a supplemental form of nutrition, and should be used in addition to a proper nutrition and fitness plan.

Want Malinda to Create a Custom Fitness Program For You?

You will receive just one thing- her sole attention to your fitness and/or nutrition program.

Each program she designs is “results-based” and while she does use state-of-the-art software to aid in the “construction” of your program, by no means is it a “cookie-cutter” or “computer-generated” routine.

Malinda does it the old fashioned way- listening and learning what YOU want…and delivering a plan that’s specific, safe, effective and last, but not least, challenging! No hype- just results!

Supplements should be used to enhance your plan, not instead of a healthy diet and fitness routine.

There are many supplements on the market that can be used to assist you in meeting your goals. And yes some are more effective than others.(that is another newsletter :) ) And some on the market just flat out do not work at all. Another issue with supplements is finding the right amount to use and using them at the right time. Timing is very important element in supplement use.

Some supplements, such as Creatine, are best consumed immediately after workout. Many protein powerders are better absorbed when taken on an empty stomach. And many Vitamin and Mineral supplements should be consumed with your meal.

There are natural supplements that enhance ones ability to utilize his or her own natural production of testosterone or growth hormones. Some can increase the amount of protein the body utilizes and yet other increases your ability to train.

Then there are others that are just necessary to assist you in getting the proper amount of vitamins and minerals needed for your body to perform properly and to stay health.

Every person is different and as such supplements will react differently in each person. You and only You can decide if each supplement is having the desired effect on your system.

Once again it is important to take them as directed on the label, give the supplement plenty of time to have an effect and as the last newsletter stated -- Don't change too much at once.

Keep a log of what, when and how you are taking your supplements. Log your condition prior to starting the supplement and then log each day how you feel when taking the supplement and any noticeable changes in your body, workout, diet and sleeping patterns.

Many supplements are beneficial, but it can take time to find the ones that work for you.
