Power Lifting USA – What’s This All About?
When you need to find an organization that cares about its members and its vision, you don’t have to look any further than the Power Lifting USA association.
Formerly known as the American Drug Free Powerlifting Association, Inc., USA Powerlifting is one of the largest and most powerful (no pun intended) powerlifting associations in the United States.
Who’s Included?
As a member of the International Powerlifting Federation, Power Lifting USA is associated with eighty-three different countries over six different continents. This allows the association to aid in the regulation as well as promotion of power lifting throughout the world, introducing it to areas where power lifting may not have begun, as well as developing it in areas where power lifting is already prevalent.

What Is Power Lifting?
There are a lot of misconceptions about the sport of power lifting. Power lifting USA states that power lifting can be divided into three different categories: the bench press, the squat, and the dead lift, while traditional weight lifting includes two different power lifts: the clean-and-jerk and the snatch. In competition, all of these lifts can be attempted or just one or two.
Each competitor has three chances to lift the given weight. Over the course of a competition, the total of weight that has been lifted will determine the eventual winner of a power lifting USA competition. However, if there is a tie between two competitors that have lifted the same amount of weight, the competitor with the lighter body weight will be determined to be the winner.
Competitors in power lifting USA can be male or female, and are segregated into various weights and age in those gender classifications. Competitors are generally advised to be fourteen (sometimes older) and older due to the extreme weights that are being lifted and the higher probability for injury in those with weaker skeletal and muscular systems.
What Happens To Those That Do Well In Power Lifting USA?
Those that are the top winners in the national competitors sponsored by Power Lifting USA can then proceed to one or all of the seven international competitions: World Master's Powerlifting Championships, the World Men's and Women's Powerlifting Championships, the World Bench Press Championships, World Junior and Sub-Junior Powerlifting Championships, and World Master's Bench Press Championships.
How Can I Become A Part Of Power Lifting USA?
It’s easy to compete in a Power Lifting USA competition and thus become a part of the national or international organization. Check with your local power lifting clubs to see if there are teams that are being sponsored to compete. You will generally have to be sponsored in order to get a place at one of the competitions or sponsor yourself by paying the entry fees.
If you want to register for a competition, you can download various forms on the Power Lifting USA website or you can call one of their planners to get further information and get yourself registered.
A good thing to do before you rush to sign up for Power Lifting USA is to read their extensive rules and bylaws. One of their main concerns is that power lifters remain drug free throughout training and competition, so you will need to expect that you will be drug tested prior to any and all competitions.
