What Everyone Can Learn From Police Physical Agility Test

While you might not need to break down a door or chase someone down a fire escape in order to preserve justice, the dexterity that police officers need to perform these tasks is something that we should all strive for and we can learn this from experiencing the police physical agility test.

The police physical agility test is composed of multiple tests to make sure that the people in ‘blue’ are able to protect us no matter what the criminal does.

Why Agility Is Necessary

As we age, we naturally lose strength and flexibility as our muscles begin to diminish. However, while some of this process can not be stopped, regular exercise can help to slow this process. When our bodies aren’t kept in good shape, we become more susceptible to injury as well as falls.

    The Push Away

While you probably shouldn’t attempt this police physical agility test protocol at home, you will want to ask yourself if you can do similar activities. In the pushing test, the officer needs to push a car that is in neutral fifteen feet while someone inside steers for safety.

This is designed to test the office in terms of strength as well as ability to move a disabled vehicle out of the path of oncoming traffic in an accident situation or other related event.

    Climbing Up And Through

Many police department police physical agility test situations will include a climbing component. In this, the officer will choose between a chain link fence/wall and a wood fence of about six feet in height.

The wall that they choose will be the one that they will climb over. This test simulates the conditions found in chase situations when the officer needs to climb over a fence near a building.

The officer will then run fifty yards and climb through a window that is the approximate size of a window found in a modern home.

    Balancing Act And A Drag

In the police physical agility test, the applicant will need to balance on a wooden beam that is about a half a foot in diameter, walking fifteen feet on the narrow length. This test is completed after running from the last tests – approximately twenty five to fifty yards.

Running a further distance to the final stage of the police physical agility test, the applicant or officer will have to drag a one hundred and sixty five pound bag over fifteen feet to simulate the dragging of a body as a dead weight. The completion of this is then the end of the police physical agility test.

While this may all seem hard to replicate at home, ask yourself if you could complete similar tests in the police physical agility test. If you don’t think that you can do less rigorous versions of these tasks, you may want to reevaluate your current exercise routine and start to build up any areas of weakness.
