Weren’t you like millions of others in the World, that just had to have it after the two hour special?
What is “it” you say? Have you been under a rock for the past week? “It” of course is Dr. Phil’s new book – The Ultimate Weight Solution, The 7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom.
So did you go get it?
Did you watch the two hour special? I caught part of the special, out of necessity and yes I was slightly curious as to what kind of spin Dr. Phil would put on weight loss.
It was actually an interesting show – even though he did not say anything that I did not already know. Heck, He really did not say anything that most people did not already know.
Problem is that most people do not apply there knowledge. I can be just as guilty as the rest. Most, if not all people seeking to lose weight knows the basic fundamentals for achieving this goal. They just need someone to put down on a piece of paper for them. But they still have to apply and live with the plan.
As a whole people want results and want them yesterday. We are rather inpatient when it comes to reaching our goal. We tend to procrastinate up until we are under so much pressure to reach a deadline or goal that we must go to extreme measures to reach them. Problem here is with the goal of weight MANAGEMENT, this tends to put us in a Yo-Yo dieting trend.
A typical dieter will go from eating everything and anything that they want to not allowing themselves anything that they want to eat. This will only last for a couple of weeks – maybe months if we are seeing results – until eventually we slide right back into old comfortable habits. Normally we slide back into the old ways when either 1. we have reached the goal that we set for ourselves, or 2. we are not seeing any results, so we give up and move on to something else, or give up all together. Then the pounds start piling back on, and usually we add a few more of them. Now we are in worse shape than when we began our “diet”.
Ideally, each of us will find a nutritional plan that we can live with everyday, for the rest of our lives. No you do not have to give up all the foods that you enjoy. It is not the last day for Pizza, cake or cookies. We just need to learn how to eat these things in moderation.
Along with that nutritional plan we will find an exercise plan that will help us achieve our goals – both in weight management and general health. Both plans need to be lifestyle changes – ones that you can continue to live with and utilize from this day forward. Once again, this does not mean that you have to spend every waking moment trying to fit exercise into your life. You do need to move every day. Walk to the corner store – heck with the price of gas nowadays it will even save you some money. ;)
Don’t get me wrong, Dr. Phil’s book is good – and yes I did pick up a copy, otherwise How could I answer your questions about his plan, huh? But you must go thru the steps, each step at the right time.
Changing your lifestyle is the Key – changing your lifestyle to one that supports your goals, but allows you to live life in a manner that you will be happy with!
